Kōtukutuku Ngāokeoke – Tree Fuschia Peripatus

The Kōtukutuku Ngāokeoke are a collection of eco-fiction toys that teach children about ecology, and are themselves part of an ecosystem of interlinking playsets. The Tapeha is part of a family of Ngāokeoke (velvet worms) who live in the middle of the Kōtukutuku (tree fuschia) amongst the bark. They help with the yearly molt of the tree bark and keep the surface safe from predators.

Family FLOWER
This family lives at the top of the tree in amoungst the flowers. They can communicate with sunlight, wind, clouds and the flowers themselves, and help with pollinating the tree.

Family BARK
This family lives in the middle of the tree amoungst the bark. They help with the yearly molt of the tree bark and keep the surface safe from predators.

Family SOIL
This family lives at the bottom of the tree in the leaf litter. They can communicate directly with the tree through the roots. They keep an eye on the moisture levels in the forest and communicate with Fungus and mold.
