The Maori god of forests and of birds, and the son of Ranginui and Papatūanuku, the sky father and the earth mother. All living creatures of the forest are regarded as Tāne’s children including the critically endangered Kākāpō night parrot. This is the moment when Tāne brought the Kākāpō to life.
